The History Behind Obama’s Inauguration

American history has always intrigued me, almost as much as art. Obama’s public Oath of Office is scheduled for later today, and I thought I’d share a little bit about the tradition.

According to the Constitution, there is one solid rule every U.S. president must follow during his inauguration.

“Before he enters the execution of his office,” the Constitution states, “he shall take the following oath or affirmation- ‘I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

The rest of the process is left completely to individual interpretation.

In its ‘Between the Lines’ blog, the Shapell Manuscript Foundation discusses the implications of this rule and the confusion it has caused in the past.

The Best of Friends

A friend just sent me this video of a boy (toddler, really), his dog and an experience with an enticing puddle. Have you ever seen anything this adorable?

Anniversaries and Date Nights

So, Nina and I are celebrating our 42nd anniversary this weekend, and I’ve been waiting for some inspiration… I have several gift ideas, but still haven’t come up with the perfect date.

I stumbled upon this list of affordable date night ideas, and while they may be too simple for my situation, I think they are wonderful and had to share them.

Which is your favorite?
